Gosh dang it Giant Robot! You spoiled the moment!
Oh no Kilo!!! But also omg like. Oh gosh that third panel!!!!!!!
those last couple panels made me laugh : ]
Taking advantage of a heartfelt speech? Even Dr. Nigellus has his honor!
But suddenly realizing we know nothing about Atlas
oh gosh those robo-tears!
Is it weird that I interpreted that musical note ocoming out of Nika as a Bastion-like noise? I think I’ve been watching too many Overwatch Vids on Youtube. =w=;
Just found and read all of this so far! I absolutely love it!
OMG That thing’s not here for Nika, it’s what was in the vault! I’m calling it, that ATLAS is neutral and just pissed off.
Sorry to be leaving a second comment on here miss Ash, but I was wondering. On you’re Patreon, you’ve stated that you have read as many books on how to write and be a cartoonist as possible. I’d really appreciate it if you could share the names of the ones you’ve found most inspirational and influential to your work. I enjoy Monster’s Garden and would like to write my own comic book one day.
For Animation/Cartooning, I had books like The Illusion of Life, Drawn to Life, The Animator’s Survival Kit, Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair. Also recommend Force: Dynamic Figure Drawing for Animators. Even if you want to do comics specifically, learning from animators helped me a whole lot with drawing believable and lively characters and action.
For Comics specifically, check out books by Will Eisner such as Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative or Comics and Sequential Art. Understanding Comics and Making Comics by Scott McCloud are good reads as well. Framed Ink is great for things like composition.
As far as books on writing goes, I liked Story by Robert McKee. And then I remember distinctly as a kid that my parents gave me the book On Writing by Stephen King though it’s been awhile since I read it so I can’t say much about its contents now. Sadly a lot of my books on writing are in storage so I don’t remember those very well. Hope this helps some!
I’ll definitely have to check these out.
This helps a lot! Thank you!
I’m so in love with this comic. Everything I love in one place–robots, magic, and giant monsters who are actually softies. Oh, and also aliens. I cannot even tell you how much I love this. :’)
I found this comic a few days ago and just caught up, yay! Now I’m ready for the slow trickle of updates….
So I’ve been a quiet kilo fan for a number of years…possibly since the first time you posted a pic of him. I had heard of the comic, or at least suspected there was one, but always assumed it was one of those ‘pay for’ graphic novels some folks release, and just never got around to looking into it immediately! But I’d always anxiously await when a new picture featuring kilo would pop up because, as other folks expressed I’ve a certain passion for big lovable brutes, and he’s the epitome of one.
While I’ll confess that I’ve mostly skimmed through the pages…just by looking at the characters, their expressions (kilos in particular) they convey so much emotion and inner turmoil that is so very apparent without even reading a single word of dialogue. I really feel for him, he grasps at my heartstrings with scarcely doing anything but smiling, or frowning, and you can feel what he’s feeling. It’s a beautiful use of pictures and the artwork is very pristine…I loved the black and white pages, but I’m absolutely blown over by the color ones. That’s something I always seem to struggle with…color, figuring out certain shades and swatches to convey the feelings of each picture still eludes me at times, but I keep working at it.
But all around wonderful…I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment, and knowing it’ll be well worth the wait.
I got to thinking though, I don’t want it to be misunderstood that I didn’t take the time to read through everything as well…that would’ve been lazy of me! Initially I was flipping through but went back and read through properly and the story is wonderful as well. I’m sorry to post twice, would’ve edited but it’s not letting me do that.
If I gave the impression I didn’t read through though again, I apologize, I was just too eager to say something about how much I really admire the strip so far.
And thats how the comic ended. Kilo straight up died.
Thank you for the incredible story thus far. I really could not close my laptop until i reached the end. These are the stories that give me inspiration, to write and create interesting characters. One day, for now i’m just an observer. Again, thank you for the awesome story.
